Triggery, violence, humanity being ugly.

Rhythm 0, 1974To test the limits of the relationship between performer and audience, Abramović developed one of her most challenging (and best-known) performances. She assigned a passive role to herself, with the public being the force which would act on her.Abramović had placed upon a table 72 objects that people were allowed to use (a sign informed them) in any way that they chose. Some of these were objects that could give pleasure, while others could be wielded to inflict pain, or to harm her. Among them were a rose, a feather, honey, a whip, scissors, a scalpel, a gun and a single bullet. For six hours the artist allowed the audience members to manipulate her body and actions. Initially, members of the audience reacted with caution and modesty, but as time passed (and the artist remained impassive) people began to act more aggressively. As Abramović described it later: “What I learned was that… if you leave it up to the audience, they can kill you.” “I felt really violated: they cut up my clothes, stuck rose thorns in my stomach, one person aimed the gun at my head, and another took it away. It created an aggressive atmosphere. After exactly 6 hours, as planned, I stood up and started walking toward the audience. Everyone ran away, to escape an actual confrontation.”

I just found this dude whose works I dig has a tumblr, wow, I’m so fast. Go me.
Now I can reblog my favourite pieces. Yesssss. And I shall start with my personal top: “_LAW_”.
I won’t even bother naming everything I love about it, it would take too long.

“Goldfish Salvation” Riusuke Fukahori

ICN gallery proudly presents Goldfish Salvation by artist Riusuke Fukahori from 1 Dec 2011 - 11 Jan 2012.

Artist Riusuke Fukahori’s London debut exhibition “Goldfish Salvation” transforms ICN gallery into the world of goldfish. When struggling with artistic vision, Fukahori’s pet goldfish became his inspiration and ever since his passion and lifelong theme. His unique style of painting uses acrylic on clear resin which is poured into containers, resulting in a three-dimensional appearance and lifelike vitality.

This video gives you a glimpse of his amazing painting process.

Bookscapes by Guy Laramee

Utilizing obsolete encyclopedias and other heavy texts, Guy makes them relevant again by repurposing them as traversible landscapes for tiny people. Or fleas maybe.

Diggin’ in the Crates and Perusing the Shelves]: The Shange / Lorde / Jordan Edition.

…i call myself exploring a new
used bookstore in the area today
and in doing so
i came across an orignal copy of the
For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf” Original Broadway Cast album.

*insert squeal here*

while i always look at the album section (if there is one) of used bookstores
i rarely find anything that i want.

But to find this -
especially when i am knee deep
in my studies of Ntozake and her work… *insert squeal here*.

I also was able to get my hands on:

June Jordan’s - “Technical Difficulties: African-American Notes on the State of the Union
and “Civil Wars“

as well as Audre Lorde’s “Sister Outsider: Essays and Speeches” .

all in all
i have to say… today has been a good ass day.
